Join Desert Adventures for our 42nd year camping at the Grand Canyon! We are continuing our decades-long tradition of camping in the Mather Campground, just a 10-minute walk to the south rim. Contact information provided when you register. After the hike we will eat lunch in Sedona then head back to Home Depot arriving around 5pm. ![]() We will meet at the Home Depot parking lot (I-17 and Carefree Hwy) at 7:30 am and head out at 8am SHARP. Swimming hiking, fishing, and picnicking are favorite activities at Grasshopper Point. Casner Trail continues from there and offers excellent views. The swimming area is situated under canyon walls and has some deep water for the adventurous.Īllen's Bend Trail starts from the picnic area and runs about a mile parallel to the creek. Grasshopper Point picnic area is a favorite swimming area and has access to great hiking trails. Cash check or credit card can be used for entry. The day use cost is $12 per vehicle for up to 5 people so carpool to save fees. There are picnic tables and vault toilets at the trail head but no drinking water. It's open year-round from 9am to 6pm Monday through Thursday and 8am to 6pm Friday through Sunday. From Sedona, just a couple miles north of town and accessible via pave road. This swimming hole is nestled in Oak Creek Canyon with its lush trees and picnic area. Your trip leaders will once again be Mountain Men Joe & Hans who can be reached at or 60 (text only) Nearest full commercial services are 15 miles in Show Low. Follow the signs to Lewis Canyon Group Site and turn right onto FR 130A, which goes directly to Lewis Canyon Group Campground (+34.285065, -110.240217). Continue south 2.3 miles on Pinedale Road, which becomes Rim Road. Drive through Pinedale and the covered bridge to the U.S. If we have at least 6 campers who want to do a potluck dinner on Saturday evening, Hans will contact you.ĭirections: Driving on AZ-260, turn S onto Pinedale Rd, (+34.317769, -110.247561). Your moderately behaved dogs are welcome. Remember to bring food, drinking water, hiking gear & firewood. The only water on site is non-potable & for drowning the fire. The site features: Picnic tables, fire rings, 4 large group barbecue grills, dumpster & modern vault toilets. You can arrive: anytime after noon on Thursday, August 10th. A shorter 7-mile loop trail is also marked. The trail is a pleasant 14 mile loop through ponderosa pines, juniper and manzanita. This trail is open to non-motorized vehicles, hikers, horses & mountain bicycles. The trailhead to the Juniper Ridge Trail #640 is located at the group campground. Wild turkey, elk and deer are often seen in the vicinity. Lewis Canyon Campground is located at 6,600 feet in a beautiful ponderosa pine setting with a large open field nearby. Turn right onto FR 138 and drive about one mile to the campground. ![]() The community of Happy Jack, Arizona has a gas station, two convenience stores and two restaurants.įrom Payson, Arizona, drive 46 miles north on AZ 87 toward Winslow. There are also several Fire Lookout Towers in the area. Cragin Reservoir and Knoll Lake offer opportunities for water-based recreation, while the Arizona National Scenic Trail, General Crook National Recreation Trail, and historic Cabin Loop Trail System offer opportunities for hikers, bicyclist, and equestrian users. Many visitors spend time relaxing and exploring the area. This steep escarpment, measured in thousands of feet, stretches from New Mexico diagonally across two thirds of Arizona and offers sweeping views of the landscape. The nearby Mogollon Rim is one of the most striking geologic features in the state. The group sites include fire rings, grills, picnic tables, vault toilets, and trash collection, and piped drinking water (sorry, no electricity, and for the month of August, no water). ![]() The Moqui Group Campground sits in a beautiful setting surrounded by ponderosa, oak, and aspen at an elevation of 6,915'. ![]()
